Two of the same writers for “God’s Country” also wrote “Come Back As A Country Boy”. So what? Well, one; there are similarities in the two songs and most likely in others on this album. And two; as a writer myself, I’ve had cuts and success, but one thing I always hear is “it’s gotta be different, it’s gotta be compelling, don’t use clichés, and all that. Yet, the Nashville politicians continue to slip in the same writers, and same tired rhymes and clichés. I get it, these guys are paid employees and they come first. But shouldn’t they fall under the same qualifications? I sound like a jealous outsider I know, but I just don’t care anymore. Music was much more interesting when the doors were open and the industry was receptive to new writers. Now the handful of “hit writers” they use are churning out mediocre songs like biscuits at Bojangles, and you keep buying it. Maybe one day the music industry and consumers will wake up, till then, enjoy your sleep because you are missing out.
