  • Phenomenal - The Christmas Spirit

    By KPetersen
Highly recommend this album. I grew up listening to this as a child at Christmas, decorating and baking. Now that I’m close to 40, this album helps restore the spirit of Christmas.
  • The Best Christmas Album In Existence

I absolutely love this album. The sounds are so vintage and unique. It’s so nostalgic that I can almost imagine the sounds of the record playing slowing moving across the vinyl. Barbra’s voice fills my soul with Christmas spirit and this is the only CD that truly incites the magical spirit of Christmas within me.
  • One of the top all-time best!!!

I first heard this album when I was in junior high and I liked it... but then a year or so later my sister bought the CD and I listened to it again and I absolutely fell in love with it! It is right up there with the other timeless holiday albs like A Charlie Brown Christmas (unarguably the greatest of them all!!), the Carpenters, Nat King Cole and Andy Williams first holiday album. We just don't have enough great holiday albums made in the last 25-30 years that can equal the timeless quality that Streisand infuses into this masterpiece of holiday standards. Possibly her two best tracks here are "The Best Gift" (in celebration of her son Jason who had just been born before she began working on this album) and "White Christmas" (she was just getting over a cold when she recorded this track and her voice had a sort of huskiness that made this version all the more priceless). This is undoubtedly one of the top three greatest Christmas albums of all time!!!
  • The Best

The best Christmas album hands down. Everyone should have this classic in their collection.
  • A staple at my house during Christmastime.

I have loved this recording for over 20 years. Barbra no doubt is one of the greatest female voices of all time. It's simply a great recording. I have it on CD and will never give it up. I'm actually listening to it right this minute.

pink amaryllis says this album is "more traditional than I would have liked". Christmas IS traditional !! Streisand was 25 years old when she recorded this album, and it remains one of the best ever recorded. She somehow makes the songs seem fresh and new again. I was 17 years old when I bought this album, and 45 years later I still listen to it every "traditional" year. Her phrasing on The Lord's Prayer can only be equaled by Mahalia Jackson, from whom it seems the arrangement came. This, my friends, is a Christmas album.

Growing up this one album was always my mom's favorite to put on at Christmas. I'll always remember decorating and baking with this album playing. A true classic for me!
  • Amazing seasonal music!

This is my all time favorite collection of Christmas music. A must have.
  • The Last of the Bunch.

It's so sad to think that this is her last studio album with these kinds of wonderful songs. After this (and the Funny Girl album) she releases "What About Today?". After that, she leaves her roots for almost two decades. By the way, this is a GREAT album. It's just sad to listen to it when you know its the last of its kind.
  • A Classic

Barbra was recovering from a cold during the recording of this album, the finished product hinted at the burnished vocal that was to come in her later years. All the songs soar, the only uptempo song is the campy "Jingle Bells?" the rest are laid back with relaxed vocals and a harpsichord as the prominent instrument. A standout track for me is the majestic "My Favorite Things" which had yet to become associated with the holiday as it is now, her haunted "I Wonder As I Wander" should be regarded as the definitive version of this particular song. This remastered version retains the warmth of the original cd issue but as with all remasters is fuller, louder, and crisp. I'm drawn to the cover art, it was distasteful in the 60's to feature a woman pregnant and they tried to hide her behind a Christmas Star.
