Akon understood the assignment
Akon can change his tone, and that’s what he did with “Hold my Hand”.
I love MJ, I grew up with him but this isn’t Michael
Sorry this is long...
Let me first start off by saying I love MJ. I grew up with his music and when I was 7 I thought I would marry him. Clearly I was wrong. When MJ passed, my heart sank. He inspired me to become a musician. And in 2009, he was gone. Now I’m not here to bash his album because if it was MJ singing, there would be energy. Jason Malachi is the singer on this album. How do I know? Glad you asked. I’ve learned a lot in developing my ear and singers have a certain “personality” to their voice. MJ is no different. Even if they try to change it, the tonality and quality of the voice would still be heard. I don’t doubt that MJ sang these songs, however I do believe he wasn’t able to finish them, therefore replacing Malachi and mixing the two voices. MJ has a certain energy about him when he sang and this album severely lacks it. On the song Monster, “MJ”s vibrato is slower by about 1/16 to 1/8 note slower. When comparing tracks, this makes a HUGE difference. Plus, MJ had this raspiness when he sang certain words to emphasize meaning and feeling. And in the Monster track among others these song were just sang. There’s no personality. No meaning and the timber is off. Any true MJ fan that has an incredible ear would be able to hear it. I do give the label a little credit for trying to find a similar singer to fill in those gaps and the post production team (audio/mixing engineers) did a phenomenal job at blending the two voices, but it is just not Michael. I spent my money on a few other albums that had songs that reminded me of when MJ was alive. We lost an amazing musician. His legacy will live on and for me it’s through the other albums, not this one. If this reminds you of MJ and you can’t tell the difference, then go a head buy it. You won’t regret it. It’s just for me personally, I want that extra special sauce MJ has when he sings. May the King of Pop live in our hearts and we continue to share music with the generations to come.
Xscape is way better
Don't bother with this posthumous, stopgap release, corporate money grab of an album.

A Word Of Caution
By Sam L. Parity
“Monster,” “Keep Your Head Up,” and “Breaking News” are all sung by a Michael Jackson impersonator, and not actually by MJ...
I just read that Sony confessed they released ‘fake singles’ after Michael Jackson’s death. According to court documents, a fan discovered that an impersonator named Jason Malachi allegedly recorded “Breaking News”, “Monster” and “Keep Your Head Up”. 😒😑
