I am dancing to If Momma Was Married this year at competition and I absolutely love this album. The glee versions also made me look these songs up. Fab.

Gypsy is my all time favorie musical, and Bette is my favorite Mama Rose. This album is totally worth every penny, and so is the movie!

  • Not bad

I enjoy Bette Midler's interpretation of Rose and it's second only to Patti LuPone who blew all of the other incredible actresses who have had the pleasure of playing her out of the water... Can't wait until Ms. LuPone's version comes out, but this is a decent second... Bette Midler does have a great voice and incredible stage presence so it works... If you're interested, check out Ms. LuPone's Rose's Turn on youtube... you wont be disappointed
  • meh at best

I saw this movie because it was free On Demand and i've always wanted to see it, but i must say i was disappointed. She sounded like she was just shouting and the tempos were far slower than what i was used to. I'd recommend the Bernadette Peters revival over this
  • Michael Rafter's musical direction

    By broadway obsessor
WOW- this soundtrack actually doesn't suck thanks to the wonderful musical director of this movie- Michael Rafter. I know him personally and he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. It's almost on par with the Original Cast Recording (for those who don't know- a cast recording is to a stage production what a soundrack is to a movie- big difference). Just thought I'd say that. If you prefer Bette's voice to Ethel Merman then I'd say get this one- but I'm a broadway purist. So I'd reccomend the OCR. (original cast recording).
  • Fantastic!

Such an emotional story! Granted, Bette even could've played Mama Rose a little bit more insane...but her voice, oh wow! It far outshines that of any revival!
  • Another at Gypsy!

I have always loved the tracks from Gypsy. First it was Ethel Merman playing Mama Rose in the Broadway Production of Gypsy. Then next Liza Minnelli takes selected songs from Gypsy, and still today sings them in concerts. Then now here we have Bette Midler. Who will the next to try Gypsy. And Bette Midler was great at this album. One of the best from The Divine Miss M. I just wished they didn't make the movie into a TV Movie. They should have released in theaters. Bette would have really shined!
